A digital drawing of a man with white face paint, dramatic red and black eyeshadow and lipstick, and long black hair. He gazes downward.

Pegleg

Digital art, 2020-2023

This drawing is emblematic of my style (one of them, anyway). It is grounded in realism but incorporates graphic, almost comic-like elements. I abstract 3-D surfaces to planes of flat color that suggest just enough dimension. I use thick black outlines and a limited color palette.

Pegleg is a character from “The Black Rider,” an obscure, German, Tom Waits musical from the 90s that my friend one chose to watch at a party. It’s as weird as it sounds.
